Project
Training for community moderators
Preparation and implementation of various projects including renovation of an inner yard, uniting activists into initiative group, planning road repair, discussion of the urban development strategy, etc., aimed at development and city renovation should take into account the interests of all stakeholders. This discussion becomes successful on condition of thorough professional organization and moderation.
Experience of other cities demonstrates that it is important to have knowledgeable and trained moderators among the citizens, activists and city administration employees who could efficiently plan and conduct public hearings, engaging the public.
For this purpose in 2014-2015 the Project held two workshops on training community moderators. Representatives of other Ukrainian cities, Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, were invited to participate. Each workshop consisted of three 3-day modules. Seminar concept has been developed and embodied by Ute Kinn, German specialist in community involvement, together with the project “Municipal Development and Rehabilitation of the Old City of Lviv.” The training emphasis was on moderation activities related to urban development issues. The content of the seminar was prepared according to local needs and focused on practical aspect, in particular on role playing based on real projects worked on by participants.
